Today, Quogue-Sinclair is a woman-owned business, led by Brenda Sinclair. Brenda, the second generation of Sinclairs to run the company, works closely with her son, Colby, managing the day-to-day operations (and preparing the third generation to lead … eventually). Brenda has been president of The Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society for many years, and indulges her artistic side by photographing our beautiful community.
In 1954, Hampton Bays and the surrounding communities were a lot different - the area was more rural, certainly quieter, and the Hamptons were being introduced to New York City residents as a "low-cost retreat that has everything." It was here that C.F. Sinclair, Hampton Bays native and World War II combat veteran, using a loan from a relative to buy an old oil truck, started the business that has defined his life.
“Our children were young then, and our new family-owned oil company was run from the dining room table in true ‘mom and pop’ style. We delivered oil to our neighbors' homes, sharing local news along the way. Back in 1954, we had to use a ‘hand crank’ to reel the hose back onto the truck, so there was plenty of time to talk - about fishing and the weather.”
Since then, we've changed quite a few things. Though already growing, we merged a few decades ago with Quogue Fuels, who shared our passion for quality, and gained a new name. Later, we added propane delivery and service to our skills. We use the latest office and service technologies. We employ some of the finest technicians, drivers and office personnel in the region. Our storage facilities in Hampton Bays and Water Mill are state-of-the-art, environmentally safe and represent our commitment to supplying the fuel needs of our customers in the worst of weather.
We're proud of the changes we've made, but we're just as proud of the things we haven't changed — like the dependability and good service that only a family-owned, independent business can provide.
Even after over 60 years, our business is still growing the way it always has – by word-of-mouth.
